I provide periodontal treatment for patients with gum disease, gum recession and advanced periodontal problems across Leeds, Batley and York.
I accept periodontal referrals from dentists for all aspects of periodontal care, including non-surgical periodontal therapy, gum grafting and peri-implantitis management.
I work closely with dentists across Yorkshire to help manage complex periodontal cases.
My focus is helping patients improve their periodontal health through clear communication, evidence-based treatment and excellent long-term outcomes.

WHAT IS PERIODONTAL DISEASE?
Periodontal disease (also known as gum disease or periodontitis) is an inflammatory condition caused by bacteria in dental plaque. It affects the gums and supporting bone around the teeth, and if untreated can lead to gum recession, tooth mobility and tooth loss.
WHEN SHOULD A REFERRAL BE OFFERED?
The British Society of Periodontology recommends referral or specialist input for periodontal cases where patients present with:
Persistent BPE score 3 or 4 after initial periodontal treatment
Rapidly progressing or Grade C periodontitis
Complex periodontal conditions such as furcation involvement or advanced attachment loss
Systemic risk factors such as smoking or uncontrolled diabetes
Non-plaque induced periodontal manifestations of systemic disease
Peri-implant disease or peri-implant bone loss
Significant gingival enlargement
Cases requiring periodontal surgery or advanced periodontal management
WHAT HAPPENS AT A PERIODONTAL CONSULTATION?
At a periodontal consultation, Fergus will assess the patient’s gum health, review radiographs if available, and carry out a full periodontal examination.
Findings will be explained clearly, along with treatment options for managing gum disease, gum recession or other periodontal conditions.
No invasive treatment is carried out at this stage unless clinically indicated.
DO YOU ACCEPT PERIODONTAL REFERRALS?
Yes. Fergus regularly accepts periodontal referrals from dentists for the management of gum disease, gum recession and complex periodontal cases.
Referrals are accepted for patients attending practices in Leeds, Batley and York.
WHAT TREATMENTS ARE PROVIDED FOR GUM DISEASE?
Treatment may include non-surgical periodontal therapy, root surface debridement, periodontal education, splinting, crown lengthening, gum grafting and peri-implantitis management, depending on the severity of the condition.
HOW DO I REFER?
Fergus provides periodontal treatment across practices in Leeds, Batley and York.

WHAT INFORMATION SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN A REFERRAL?
Referrals are most useful when they include relevant medical history, periodontal charting where available, radiographs, and a clear summary of the clinical concern. This ensures efficient assessment and appropriate treatment planning.
